We’re working with a well-established civil engineering contractor to recruit a Site Manager for a residential infrastructure scheme in Wantage. The immediate focus will be overseeing the final phases of a road construction project, ensuring all finishing works are completed safely, efficiently and to an exceptional standard ahead of handover.
This isn’t a mega project – it’s the ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, building strong relationships on site and taking ownership of delivering a quality finish.

Although your first project will be a residential roads scheme, the business delivers a varied portfolio of civil engineering and construction projects including:
- Residential infrastructure and Section 38/278 highways
- Groundworks and drainage
- Earthworks and site preparation
- External works and landscaping
- Commercial and public realm schemes
- Utilities and infrastructure projects
- Reinforced concrete and structural works
- Building and construction projects alongside their civil engineering operations
This variety means the role would suit someone with a broad civil engineering background who enjoys working across different types of projects.
The Role
As Site Manager, you’ll be responsible for:
- Managing the day-to-day delivery of the finishing stages of a residential road project.
- Coordinating subcontractors and direct labour.
- Maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and quality.
- Liaising with the client, local authority inspectors and the wider project team.
- Managing programmes to ensure works are delivered on time.
- Driving quality throughout the final stages of the project and ensuring a smooth handover.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering.
- Strong experience delivering finishing works, particularly on residential infrastructure or highways projects.
- A good understanding of roads, drainage, kerbing, footways and external works.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid (preferred).
- A proactive approach and genuine pride in delivering quality projects.
