We’re working with a well-established and highly respected engineering manufacturer that designs and produces pressure vessels, pressure pipework, and heat exchangers for a wide range of industries. Known for quality and precision, the company maintains the highest standards in engineering excellence and product innovation.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team.

This is a key technical role responsible for the design and development of pressure vessels, pressure pipework, heat exchangers, and fabrication jigs and fixtures, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

You’ll work closely with production, quality, and project teams, contributing to both new product development and the continuous improvement of existing designs. This role would suit an engineer who combines strong technical expertise with practical problem-solving ability and a commitment to quality engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop pressure vessels, pipework, and heat exchangers in line with ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952 standards.
  • Produce accurate engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Conduct design calculations, stress analysis, and material selection.
  • Collaborate with project and production teams to ensure specifications and deadlines are met.
  • Optimise designs for functionality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Support the development of jigs, fixtures, and tooling for fabrication.
  • Ensure designs comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date design records and documentation.

About You

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience).
  • Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally involving pressure systems or heavy fabrication.
  • Knowledge of ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952 standards.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Experience with stress analysis and material selection.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Security Clearance Requirement:
Due to the nature of the work, this role is only open to British nationals eligible for UK Government security vetting (UKSV). Applicants must meet nationality and clearance criteria before employment can commence.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in the power generation, oil & gas, or chemical industries.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Chartered status or working towards IMechE / IED membership.

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary £45,000 – £50,000 per annum
  • Company pension scheme and benefits package
  • 26 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Opportunity to work on a wide range of cutting-edge engineering projects
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Monday – Thursday: 8.00am – 4.30pm
  • Friday: 8.00am – 1.30pm

How to Apply

If you’re a technically minded engineer with a passion for precision design, manufacturing excellence, and innovative problem-solving, we’d love to hear from you.
